Hello, I'm Katie, the proud owner of Barn Roots, LLC, based in Bronson, MI. I embarked on this entrepreneurial journey in the spring of 2022, driven by a deep-rooted passion for animals and inspired by the legacy of my grandpa and father.
My story begins at Michigan State University, where I proudly graduated as a third-generation student of animal science in 2017. Armed with this knowledge, I eagerly stepped into the world of agriculture, taking on the role of a farrowing manager at a hog farm shortly after graduation. However, life took an unexpected turn in December 2021 when I was involved in a car accident, making it challenging to continue my management role on the farm.
Despite the setbacks, my unwavering determination to work with animals led me down a new path. Drawing on my expertise in animal science and the resources of our family farm and homestead, I began crafting natural, homemade products. From goat milk to tallow, wool, lanolin, and various plants, I use these elements to create unique, handcrafted items. My products are not only a reflection of my passion for animals but also a tribute to the rustic and primitive aesthetics found in and around the barn.
But there's more to my story. The Log Cabin Trailer, a traveling boutique with a distinct log cabin look, is a loving homage to my grandparents. My grandpa, known for his legendary craftsmanship, was the mastermind behind "Hukill Cabins," having built over 30 custom log homes in his lifetime. To pay tribute to his legacy, I incorporated some of the leftover wood from his creations into my mobile boutique.
Barn Roots, LLC, is not just a business; it's a heartfelt journey inspired by the generations that came before me. I invite you to explore my range of products and support my small business as I continue to channel my family's love for animals and the rustic charm of the barn into every creation. Thank you for being part of my story and for supporting local, handcrafted products.
